Confined Spaces Courses

Making sure that your team have completed their confined spaces courses is an essential part of good health and safety management in the construction sector. These industry qualifications mean that your staff are able to properly work in challenging and potentially dangerous environments without unnecessary risk. A confined space is defined as any working environment that could be considered largely enclosed and could present a specified risk or hazardous working environment, examples include pits, silos, chambers, crawl spaces etc.
Confined spaces accreditation is split into three tiers, low risk, medium risk and high-risk work. Low risk confined spaces doesn’t require the use of specialist breathing apparatus as they are easy to escape from if required, and are normally well ventilated and are unlikely to flood.
Medium risk spaces may require the use of escape breathing apparatus, this is breathing apparatus donned only in emergency situations where this needs to be done quickly. Medium risk spaces always involve a team of people, including a support team to provide aid to the entrant.
High risk spaces require a full set of breathing apparatus and other protective equipment to be worn at all times due to air-related risks, including gas, asbestos and other contaminants. In such spaces, there is a high risk of exposure to a variety of potential dangers, including heat and physical hazards. It is in these such environments that emergency rescue is most likely to be required if proper training hasn’t been completed.
As can be seen, the demands of each type of space require a vastly different set of skills. That is why Hire Safe Solutions offers training courses and assessments for all three levels. An accredited confined space trained worker will understand the procedures required for working in such enclosed spaces, be able to undertake proper risk assessments of such work and will have the skills required to be able to perform these tasks safely.
