Spider Lift Hire
Spider Lifts offer compact, reliable solutions for projects working at height across a range of industries, where diverse terrain, weight restrictions, or access are a challenge.
The Hire Safe Solutions fleet is continually invested in to provide the most modern and reliable electric and hybrid spider lifts. We’re here to help you hit your sustainability targets.
How do spider lifts work?
Spider lifts are powerful machines, ideal for uneven terrain or where flooring may be damaged by weight. When in position, four hydraulic outriggers extend from the spider lift, allowing it to evenly distribute its weight across the ground, minimising surface pressure. Their fold-down outriggers also provide extreme stability, which enables safe operation at maximum height for both indoor and outdoor projects.
What are the benefits of hiring a spider lift?
Thanks to their crawler tracks and outriggers, which allow for better weight distribution, spider lifts are ideal for working on rough terrain and fragile flooring alike. Their ability to distribute their weight also allows them to access areas that are inaccessible to other access platforms, like cherry pickers.
Spider lifts have a thin profile by design, which allows them to work in tighter areas and enter buildings where other platforms may not. Their 360-degree rotation further enhances their ability to perform work in a smaller area.
Alongside the above, spider lifts are typically lightweight and are highly manoeuvrable, so they can perform operations on fragile floors that may be damaged by heavier machinery.
The tracks on a spider lift are built for a range of terrains, from smooth indoor surfaces to soft ground or rougher terrain. Spider lift tracks are also fitted with non-marking types and leave no marks on indoor surfaces.
Finally, thanks to their weight and size, spider lifts can be easily transported from A to B, making them an essential piece of machinery for projects on a tighter timeframe.
What are the benefits of hiring an electric Spider lift?
Our electric spider lifts are ideal for projects that require access platforms for enclosed or emission-aware projects, where fumes may be an issue.
When working in public areas, an electric spider lift offers a low-noise and zero-emission option. This also means reduced fuel consumption for more cost-effective performance.
Many of our Spider lift MEWPs offer several power options, such as the Hinowa Lightlift 33.17, which is available as a diesel, electric, and battery model.
What are the benefits of hiring a hybrid Spider Lift?
Many hybrid spider lifts like the Hinowa TeleCrawler T22N use Lithium-Ion power supplies, which, like their electric counterparts, allow for reduced noise and zero emissions over extended periods.
Alongside the internal battery, a heat engine option is available, which allows for standard diesel use. This may allow for longer periods of use than the battery, but it should ideally be used only in spaces where exhaust gases won’t pose an issue.
When should you hire a Spider Lift?
Due to their versatile design, spider lifts are suitable for a range of uses, including:
- Arboriculture, such as Tree felling and pruning
- Window cleaning tall buildings
- Stadium maintenance
- Pipe work installation
- Event production and management
- And more.
You should consider spider lifts when you have projects that require machinery to be on uneven or fragile terrain, or where tighter spaces don’t allow for other access platforms.

Spider Lift Hire Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a licence to hire a spider lift?
Before hiring a spider lift, a demonstration of an IPAF 1b Static Boom license is required.
Although having this licence is not a legal requirement, completing MEWP training, such as receiving an IPAF certification, is a legal requirement that employers must abide by under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 before using machinery. This is to ensure safety and responsible usage.
Regular refresher training is also recommended to stay up to date with best practices, safety standards and any regulatory changes.
At Hire Safe Solutions, we understand that training is an essential part of a modern business, which is why we provide a range of comprehensive training courses so you can feel safe in your workplace.

Which category does a spider lift belong to?
A spider lift is categorised by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) as a 1b Static Boom Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP).
This means they cannot be driven while elevated and should always be secured in one position before operations can begin.
Is a spider lift a MEWP?
Whilst commonly referred to as a spider lift, tracked spider lift, or even a spider cherry picker, all spider lifts are considered MEWPs, as they are mobile elevating work platforms.
This means they provide exceptional reach and are suitable for working in hard-to-access areas or for allowing teams to work at height.
What is the difference between a cherry picker and a spider lift?
Whilst spider lifts are sometimes referred to as a spider cherry picker, there are some significant differences between spider access platforms and cherry pickers.
Cherry pickers are typically more suited for use in the outdoors, especially when a project requires transitioning from multiple sites.
Spider lifts are more versatile thanks to their compact design, offering an ideal solution for both indoor and outdoor tasks where space may be restrictive. They may also be more suited to uneven terrain and fragile flooring, due to their design, which offers a greater weight distribution.
What safety features do spider lifts include?
Spider lifts are equipped with several safety systems, such as emergency descent, monitoring sensors and wireless control systems, which allow operation from a safe distance.
