Scissor Lifts

Stay safe working at height with reliable scissor lift hire, built for indoor and outdoor use. With electric, diesel, hybrid, bi‑fuel and gas models ranging from 6m to 37m, you’ll find the right platform for every project.

Hybrid Scissor Lift Hire

Our hybrid scissor lifts combine a built‑in lithium battery with a separate fuel tank, delivering clean, efficient and long‑duration performance both indoors and outdoors. With a growing range that includes high‑performance models such as the Dingli 3730HRT, 2825HRT and 2223HRT, we continue to invest in advanced hybrid technology to support demanding working‑at‑height environments.

Benefits of hybrid scissor lifts

Hybrid scissor lifts offer the ideal balance of power and sustainability, helping projects meet modern environmental targets without compromising performance. Their zero‑emission battery mode makes them perfectly suited to Clean Air Zones, low‑emission areas, and sensitive indoor environments such as warehouses and tunnels.

With significantly quieter operation when running on battery, hybrid models are also ideal for work in built‑up areas or noise‑restricted sites — delivering clean, efficient and reliable performance across a wide range of applications.

Diesel Scissor Lift Hire

Our diesel scissor lifts deliver powerful, dependable performance for demanding outdoor work, with large‑format models offering working heights from 24m to 34m. We continue to expand our high‑reach capabilities with the addition of 37m hybrid units from industry‑leading manufacturers including JLG, Genie, Holland Lift and Dingli.

Benefits of a diesel scissor lift

Diesel scissor lifts are ideal for heavy‑duty work, offering higher load capacities and longer operating times without the need for recharging, perfect for demanding, continuous‑use environments.  Their high‑torque performance also makes them well-suited to rough or uneven ground, delivering stable access where electric models may struggle.

Commonly used across construction, cladding, glazing and other outdoor applications, diesel scissor lifts provide the power and durability needed for challenging worksites, while electric units remain the better choice for indoor tasks such as racking, installation and M&E work

Electric Scissor Lifts Hire

Our electric scissor lifts provide clean, quiet and efficient access for indoor and sensitive environments, delivering reliable performance with zero on‑site emissions. Powered by advanced lithium‑ion technology, leading models such as the Zoomlion ZS0607AC‑Li offer maintenance‑free AC drive, intelligent battery management and IP67‑rated protection for added durability.

With dependable cold‑weather operation and enhanced safety features, our electric scissor lifts are built to support precise, high‑efficiency work across a wide range of applications.

Benefits of electric scissor lifts

Electric scissor lifts offer a clean, quiet and cost efficient solution for working at height.  With no fuel consumption, they’re cheaper to run, easier to maintain, and ideal for projects where reducing operational costs and emissions is essential.

Their zero-emission operation and low‑noise performance make them perfectly suited to pedestrian‑sensitive environments such as hospitals and schools, but they truly excel in large internal spaces.  From warehouses and distribution centres to high‑ceilinged industrial buildings, electric scissor lifts provide excellent manoeuvrability and precise control in tight or confined areas.

Built for efficient indoor performance and reliable everyday use, electric scissor lifts remain one of the most effective solutions for modern internal works across a wide range of sectors.

Scissor Lift hire FAQs

What training do you need to operate a scissor lift in the UK?

Operating a scissor lift in the UK requires proper, accredited training to ensure safe and competent use.  Although scissor lift operators do not need a formal licence, employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure operators are fully trained, assessed and competent before using any MEWP.

Most operators complete IPAF 3A training, which covers essential areas such as Safe operation of platform controls and Emergency lowering and rescue procedures.

Regular refresher training is also recommended to stay up to date with best practices, safety standards and any regulatory changes.

As well as an extensive range of machinery, Hire Safe Solutions also offer comprehensive training courses to promote safety standards and staff wellbeing.

Will a scissor lift fit through a standard doorway?

Many of our compact electric scissor lifts are designed to fit through standard doorways when lowered, making them ideal for indoor work and tight access areas.  Some models may require folding the guardrails to achieve the correct clearance, depending on the doorway width.

It’s also important to consider floor capacity, while these machines are compact, several models still weigh over 1,000kg. Always ensure the flooring or foundations can safely support the machine’s weight before operation.

How high can scissor lifts go?

At Hire Safe Solutions, our scissor lift fleet covers a wide range of working heights, from compact 6m electric models through to large diesel and hybrid scissor lifts reaching up to 37m.  This allows you to choose the right platform for everything from indoor maintenance to high‑level industrial or construction work.

If you need to reach greater heights or access hard‑to‑reach areas, a Boom Lift or Cherry Picker may be more suitable.  These platforms are designed for outreach as well as height, enabling access to locations that scissor lifts cannot reach directly.

Do scissor lifts tip over easily?

Ensuring proper operation on stable terrain, a scissor lift should not tip over. Ensure extra caution if using a scissor lift on particularly challenging terrain such as mud, stones or high winds, being careful not to overload them.

If you are working on unstable foundations, browse our range of Extreme Terrain Vehicles, including tracked scissor lifts.

Which scissor lift should I use for my project?

Choosing the right scissor lift depends on the height you need to reach, the ground conditions, and the type of environment you’re working in.  For example, diesel and rough‑terrain scissor lifts are the best choice for outdoor projects on uneven surfaces, while electric and hybrid scissor lifts are ideal for indoor work or areas where low noise and zero emissions are essential.

It’s also important to consider platform size, weight capacity, and manoeuvrability, especially if you’re working in tight internal spaces, high‑ceilinged warehouses, distribution centres or large industrial buildings.

If your project requires greater height or outreach than a scissor lift can provide, a Boom Lift or Cherry Picker may be more suitable, as these machines can access difficult‑to‑reach areas safely and efficiently.

To ensure you select the right machine for your project, our team can offer expert one‑to‑one guidance and recommend the most suitable scissor lift based on your site conditions, height requirements and operational environment.

Is a scissor lift high risk?

Scissor lifts are safe to use when operated correctly, but they do carry risks that need proper control. These include falls from height, instability on uneven ground, electrical hazards, and issues caused by poor maintenance or untrained operators.

Most risks are easily managed with the right training, correct machine selection, proper maintenance checks and awareness of site conditions.  Choosing a trusted hire provider further reduces the chance of faults, delays or unsuitable equipment affecting safety or productivity

What PPE is needed for a scissor lift?

There is no single mandatory PPE list for operating a scissor lift; the required PPE depends on the site’s own safety rules, risk assessment, and the environment you’re working in.

However, most UK worksites typically require the following as standard PPE when operating or working around a scissor lift:

  • Safety helmet / hard hat – especially on construction sites or where overhead hazards exist
  • Safety boots – usually steel‑toed with non‑slip soles
  • High‑visibility clothing – standard for most operational sites
  • Gloves – depending on the task and handling requirements
  • Eye protection – for tasks involving dust, debris or cutting

PPE requirements come from the site’s risk assessment, not from the scissor lift itself. The operator must follow the safety protocols of the workplace, not a universal MEWP PPE checklist.

Do you need a harness in a scissor lift in the UK?

A harness provides an additional layer of fall protection when working at height. While a harness is not a strict legal requirement for standard scissor lift use in the UK, many sites set their own rules and may require harnesses as part of their minimum safety standards.

A site‑specific risk assessment should always determine whether a harness is needed, especially when additional fall hazards exist or when the site’s safety protocols require it.  Operators must always follow the PPE requirements of the workplace they are operating in.
