Telescopic Forklift Uses and Applications

A telescopic forklift, also known as a telehandler, is a machine popularly used within agriculture and other industries. It has many of the same qualities as a regular fork, however, it has a boom lift which makes it more versatile and gives it some of the same capabilities as a crane.

The telescopic boom can extend upwards and outwards from the vehicle and reach heights that a regular forklift could not. This makes them a popular choice for moving heavy pallet boards or other goods to high and hard to reach places. The telehandler has more reach and power than a forklift but shares the same compact design, meaning it is great for manoeuvrability and all-terrain capability.

Telehandler attachments

On the end of the boom, the operator of the machine can fit one of several attachments. This makes the telehandler a great all-round piece of equipment as it is easily adapted to suit the requirements of the operator. One of the most popular attachments is a fork carriage, this allows the operator to lift a variety of goods including concrete blocks, steel bars, pipes, timber or other packaged goods.

Other attachments include buckets and crane jibs which are often used within agriculture to move heavy loads which would be unreachable with a regular wheeled loader or fork. Furthermore, work platforms can be attached to allow safe working at height, ideal for everyday construction jobs.

What are they used for?

  • Moving heavy loads in industry
  • Lift and placing loads where forklifts can’t extend to
  • Ploughing snow
  • Building repair and maintenance
  • Site clean-ups
  • Tree surgery
  • Waste and recycling
  • Farming
